Bluebirds Get Past Los Angeles, 5-4
|
The Brooklyn Bluebirds beat the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 5-4. Brooklyn pitcher and Belleville, Pennsylvania, native Antonio Valerio led the way. Dave Norman, who is tied for 2nd in the NBL in holds with 6, was the winner in relief. His record is now 4-5. The losing pitcher was Tom Benson. With the win, the Bluebirds have a record of 32-31.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Brooklyn. That's when Wade Fields, who finished 2nd in the ABL in RBI with 99 in 1974, hit a solo home run off Tom Benson to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
"This place was rocking at the end," Valerio said.
