Industrials Trump Eagles, 3-1
|
Bob Briggs pitched a gem to lead Pittsburgh to victory over the Washington Eagles, 3-1. Briggs yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-2. Mike Gresley earned the save for Pittsburgh, his 1st of the year.
There was more than one reason the Industrials beat the Eagles, but Briggs's big at-bat in the bottom of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Pittsburgh manager Vincent Wicker. "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
Pittsburgh currently is in second place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division at 36-30.
