Drillers Rally For Late Win Over Wranglers
|
The 1974 season began for the Dallas Wranglers with a loss to the Houston Drillers at Bluff Park. The final score was 6-2. Houston pitcher Bill Switzer had a fine performance. Larry Bilski picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Frank Dunn, who led the ABL in saves with 26 in 1971, was tagged with the loss.
Mickey Hoffman provided a timely hit. The Houston pinch hitter delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Drillers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Hoffman said in reaction to the win.
