Hurons Squeeze By Detroit, 5-4
|
Toronto beat Detroit at Dominion Field, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to right fielder Steve Holley. He was 2-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Toronto reliever Alfonso Sosa picked up the win to move to 2-1. Darrell Klug suffered the loss. Randy Robins, credited with the save, is now 4 for 5 in save opportunities.
Had Jeff McPhearson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, McPhearson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Hurons.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Detroit manager Kurt Peterson said, following the tough loss.
After today's action, Toronto sits at 27-38, while Detroit falls to 32-31.
