|
St. Louis beat San Diego on the strength of starting pitcher Dick Lott's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 7-3. Lott, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. The win puts St. Louis at 4-3.
Gary Parker had a big 2-run double for the Explorers in the top of the third inning. With St. Louis leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Jack DeWitt and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Explorers ahead, 4-0.
"We take it day by day here," said Parker, "and today was a good one for us."
