Bruce Cardenas, who leads the NBL with a 0.91 WHIP, never let the Knickerbockers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Burros to a win, 2-1. Denver reliever Dick Scorza picked up the win to move to 3-0. Bruce Owen suffered the loss. The second-place Burros have won 5 consecutive games.

The Burros got a clutch hit from center fielder David Smith. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Burros.

"I just tried to focus on getting that first guy out every inning," said Cardenas.
