Knickerbockers Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
New York left-hander Sid Shafer helped his team edge Los Angeles by the score of 2-1. Shafer kept the opposing lineup in check. Shafer, now 6-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Brian Williams earned the save for New York, his 8th of the year.
Rick Hotz had a direct impact on the outcome. Hotz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put New York up, 2-0.
"Every loss stings," said Los Angeles manager John Trausch. "This one is no exception."
New York is now 34-32, while Los Angeles is 30-35.
