Captains Pull Out Late Win, 3-2
|
The San Diego Captains knocked off the Washington Eagles, 3-2, in National Baseball League action at San Diego Sporting Complex. San Diego pitcher and Mitchellville, Maryland, native Ray Heath had an outstanding performance. The win was credited to Darryl Armstrong in relief. His record improves to 4-5. Richie Kingery took the loss. The Captains, at 32-35, sit in 4th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.
Waymond Henry was the walk-off hero for San Diego. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Captains pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Wally Christensen.
