Steinhauer Muzzles Cincinnati Bats
|
The Cincinnati Packers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Pittsburgh Industrials. The Packers were overpowered by Pittsburgh starter Gene Steinhauer, who hurled his club to victory, 5-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Martin Abresch said.
Over 5 innings, Steinhauer blanked Cincinnati on 1 hit with no walks and 1 strikeout.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Steinhauer said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Looking at his season stats, Steinhauer has won 5 and lost 5, collecting 46 strikeouts and 39 walks in 89.1 innings with a 3.83 ERA.
