Pierce Baffles Seattle Batters
In a remarkable performance, New York Empires starter Jon Pierce beat the Seattle Emeralds, 5-0, in an impressive 6-hit shutout.

"My arm felt good, mechanics were good and my stuff was working," he said later. "It doesn't get any better than this."

The Empires hurler finished with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks. He showed pinpoint control and a sharp fastball.

"It was a rough one for my guys," Seattle manager Mark Velez said, following the game. "We weren't at our best and their guy was."

This season, Pierce has compiled a 11-2 mark, 2.65 ERA and made 14 starts.
