Johnson Excels in 4-1 San Francisco Win
|
Seagulls second baseman Don Johnson left his mark on his team's 4-1 win over the Boston Terriers. Johnson, who led the ABL in hits with 187 in 1968, was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for San Francisco in the contest. Pete Ragsdale, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 8 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 6-4. Paul Wiley was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 5 save opportunities.
With San Francisco leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Johnson hit a run-scoring single off Boston hurler Vern Gould. It was the 62nd hit of the season for Johnson and put his team ahead, 2-0.
Johnson told a San Francisco Herald reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
Boston, at 28-41, has lost 5 straight.
