The Atlanta Generals could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Scott Dubyak into a win. Instead, the Houston Drillers prevailed, 4-3, in 10 innings. Dubyak threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Dick Berry, now 2-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. With the win over Atlanta, the Drillers improved to 40-29.

Houston used the timely hitting of Jim Bitting to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Drillers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Steven Palps.
