The Los Angeles Pobladores picked up a win at Queens Field, downing the New York Empires, 4-2. On the mound for Los Angeles was left-hander Bob Powell, who played a pivotal role in the win. Powell, who is tied for 7th in the ABL in complete games with 5, went the distance for Los Angeles. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. Los Angeles sits in 4th place in the American Baseball League Western Division at 32-37.

Toby Baker, the 18th overall pick in the 1959 draft, had a direct impact on the outcome. Baker contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Los Angeles up, 4-1.

"Bob's focus was outstanding. The way he handled every moment -- when there was a little trouble, he didn't lose his tempo or his rhythm," said Los Angeles manager Kurt Peterson.
