Los Angeles starter Bob Powell pitched well against the Houston Drillers at San Vicente Park. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. The winner was Powell. He threw 8.2 innings of 2-hit ball. The loser was Rick McStay. Leon Fairley picked up the save for Los Angeles, his 2nd of the year.

With no one out in the bottom of the seventh, Costen Judy had a game-changing hit. The Pobladores third baseman slammed a run-scoring single off Rick McStay, making the score 4-1, Los Angeles.

"I was a little disappointed," said Houston manager Steven Palps. "We could've and should've scored more runs."

The loss puts Houston at 1-6.
