Bluebirds Get Hard-Earned Win
The Brooklyn Bluebirds topped the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 4-3, in National Baseball League action at Flatbush Park. The standout performance belonged to Brooklyn pitcher and St. Louis, Missouri, native Damon Rutherford. Rutherford, who finished 5th in the NBL in ERA with 2.81 in 1957, went the distance for Brooklyn. He gave up 3 runs on 11 hits. With this game in the books, Brooklyn is 32-39, Los Angeles 34-37.

Jackie Cooper was 1-4 for Brooklyn. The former first round draft pick had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jon Hampton. It was his 39th RBI of the season.
