Seagulls Get Clutch Win, 2-1
|
Runs were scarce at Mission Field.
San Francisco beat New York on the strength of starting pitcher Jerry Patrick's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 2-1. Dave Maughan got credit for the save for San Francisco. It was his 5th of the year.
Had Gail Bishop not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Bishop hit a 2-run single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Seagulls.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Patrick said.
The American Baseball League Western Division-leading Seagulls are 46-24.
