Hawks Defeat Emeralds, 6-3
|
The Chicago Hawks faced a tough opponent in Seattle pitcher Pat Burkholder, but found a way to pull out the victory at Puget Field by a final score of 6-3 in 11 innings. Burkholder went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Gary Ingram, now 2-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The Hawks, at 26-47, sit in last place in the American Baseball League Western Division.
Gene Malone provided a timely hit. The Chicago pinch hitter delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the 11th inning to put the Hawks on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"Our team showed some resilience," said Malone.
