New York Listless in 10-1 Loss
|
Cleveland and New York took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Cleveland Bobcats beat the New York Knickerbockers, 10-1, at Lakefront Stadium. Dan Foley, who finished 5th in the ABL in slugging percentage with .544 in 1961, starred for Cleveland. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Doug Leonard got the win, improving to 8-3. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 13 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 and walking 1.
With Cleveland leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Foley hit a fastball from Jack Forbes for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Bobcats ahead, 4-0.
New York manager William Bowen called the blowout loss "not what we had in mind."
The National Baseball League Eastern Division-leading Bobcats are 47-24.
