Stanford, on Top of His Game, Beats Atlanta, 2-0
Tuesday, April 16th , 1974
The Atlanta Generals were almost helpless in their 2-0 loss to the New York Empires and hurler Larry Stanford. Stanford kept the Generals confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Stanford," Atlanta manager Philipe Yazzie said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 26-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Stanford said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
