Injury Sidelines Fred Johnson for Season
Sunday, May 28th , 1972
The Philadelphia Quakers were dealt a severe blow when Fred Johnson was hurt running the bases recently in a game against the St. Louis Explorers. After the game, the team trainer reported Johnson might have to spend a lengthy time on the injured list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 27-year-old catcher out for the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his knee. They indicated it would take Johnson at least 8 months to heal.
So far this season, Johnson has gotten 35 hits in 144 at-bats for a .243 batting average with 5 home runs. His stats include 28 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has played in 41 games.
