Heath Blanks Denver, 8-0
Saturday, June 1st , 1974
The Denver Burros manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the San Diego Captains. The Burros were overpowered by San Diego starter Ray Heath, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Clark Anderson said.
Over 9 innings, Heath blanked Denver on 5 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Heath said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
To date this season, Heath sports a 6-0 mark with a 3.05 ERA in 12 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .215 batting average and has 48 strikeouts in 91.1 innings.
