Humphrey Baffles Boston Batters
Tuesday, June 11th , 1974
The Boston Terriers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the New York Empires. The Terriers were overpowered by New York starter Andy Humphrey, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," David Molina said.
Over 9 innings, Humphrey blanked Boston on 4 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Humphrey said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This season, Humphrey has 6 wins and 5 losses and a 2.18 ERA.
