Chirico Voted NBL's #1 Rookie Tuesday, August 1st , 1972 Phil Chirico is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest National Baseball League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In July the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .306 average with 33 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs. For the season, Chirico is batting .260 with 38 hits and 2 home runs. He has scored 19 times and batted in 12. |
