San Diego Comes up Empty Against Winder
Wednesday, August 16th , 1972
Before the game, Ron Winder said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Allegheny Field, the Industrials pitcher blanked the San Diego Captains, 7-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Winder said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my changeup even when I was behind in the count."
The Pittsburgh starter held San Diego scoreless, giving up 5 hits while registering 5 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Captains manager Joe Mack said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
Checking out his stats for the season, Winder has notched 13 wins and 6 losses in 26 starts. His ERA is 2.07 and he's struck out 113 batters in 186.2 innings.
