Dallas's Rafferty Gets 2000th Hit
Friday, September 22nd , 1967
"It would have been a lot nicer if my 2000th hit had won the game," said Joe Rafferty after the Dallas Wranglers had been tripped up by the San Francisco Seagulls, 8-7, spoiling his big day. The Wranglers third baseman gained access to the exclusive 2000-hit club by going 2-for-4 in the game played at Mission Field.
"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Rafferty said to the press after the game. "I think even the Seagulls fans were cheering me."
In his career, Rafferty has compiled a .276 batting average and collected 2000 hits, 373 home runs and 1220 RBIs.
