Behind Powell, Los Angeles Blanks Chicago, 9-0
Sunday, July 29th , 1973
Bob Powell of the Los Angeles Pobladores spun his magic on the Chicago Hawks. He blanked them, 9-0, on 5 hits, registering 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Powell said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, Los Angeles skipper Kurt Peterson said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."
"Bob pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.
This season, Powell has worked 166 innings with 101 strikeouts en route to a 10-8 record and a 3.20 ERA.
