Deal is Done, Scoggins Buys Philadelphia Quakers
Friday, October 20th , 1967
Bernie Bowles turned over the keys to the Philadelphia Quakers this afternoon to Joe Scoggins in a brief ceremony outside Quakers Stadium.

Joe Scoggins wasted no time trying to put his mark on the team.

"I've made a lot of money building things that no one thought would work. I've got a track record. Some people don't like change, but you need to embrace change if the alternative is disaster," he said. "Great teams are built with great players. We're gonna go get them."

Scoggins is said to be a tolerant character, with a fiscal personality of charitable. The Quakers finished the regular season with a 86-76 record, second place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
