League Suspends Generals Devine 3 Games Sunday, September 11th , 1977 Shortly after yesterday's Generals-Wolverines game ended, Kyle Devine's on-field tantrum seemed almost comical. In response to being ejected for questioning a called third strike, the Atlanta shortstop tossed his hat to the dirt and kicked it repeatedly. He couldn't help but laugh at himself and his over-the-top, hat-kicking, anger-laced tirade. "It was funny," Devine said. "I was hoping I could kick it all the way to the dugout." The umpiring crew, however, didn't find it funny and neither did the league. Though Devine said he did not think his actions warranted a suspension, he will miss 3 games. So far this season, Devine has 9 home runs and a .272 batting average. |
