Setback for Captains and Ernie Wilkins Thursday, September 4th , 1975 Things have gotten worse for Ernie Wilkins of the San Diego Captains. The 27-year-old shortstop will not be back as soon as originally expected. Wilkins is undergoing treatment for a sprained ankle, but his doctors have expanded his recovery time to at least 2 weeks. An unidentified team official told BNN, "Ernie tried to rush his rehab and suffered a setback." Thus far this season in 79 games, Wilkins is batting .313 with 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 217 at-bats. |
