Sunday, October 23rd , 1977
What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 1977 Most Valuable Player Award in the National Baseball League. It had already been a very special season for Los Angeles's Jim Brookins, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.
All season long Jim Brookins gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .357 as he collected 205 hits, 44 doubles, 6 triples, 44 home runs and 120 RBIs.
Jim Shuman of the Pittsburgh Industrials finished second in voting, while Guillaume Moret of the Denver Burros finished third.
