NBL Rookie of the Year Award Handed Out Sunday, October 23rd , 1977 Earl Beerbower of the San Diego Captains was a rookie, but he pitched like he had been here before. That's why he was voted the #1 new player in the National Baseball League this season. Beerbower made 32 starts and came away with a 14-8 record, a 3.13 ERA, and 91 strikeouts in 215.1 innings -- a year good enough to win the league's 1977 Rookie of the Year Award. Elijah Barnes of the Kansas City Bulls finished second in voting, while Tom Clark of the Philadelphia Quakers finished third. |
