Empires Come up Short of Playoffs Sunday, September 26th , 1976 In what starting pitcher Jon Pierce called a "devastating blow" for baseball fans in New York, the New York Empires won't be a part of the playoffs this season. They were officially eliminated from contention earlier today. New York last appeared in the postseason in 1973. This is their 3rd consecutive year missing the playoffs, and in total they have not advanced past the regular season 24 times in their 31-year history. In the last 10 seasons, the Empires have missed the playoffs 8 times. |
