McAteer Shuts Out Boston
Wednesday, August 21st , 1974
The Boston Terriers were almost helpless in their 3-0 loss to the Houston Drillers and hurler Tom McAteer. McAteer kept the Terriers confused all game, spinning a 2-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to McAteer," Boston manager David Molina said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 33-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," McAteer said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
McAteer has started 27 times this year, pitched 171.1 innings, fanned 104 batters and walked 88. His current record is 13 wins and 11 losses with a 4.57 ERA.
