Isenbarger Put in Cooler, Hitless Against San Diego Saturday, August 31st , 1974 Late in the game, all eyes in San Diego Sporting Complex were on Rob Isenbarger as he stepped into the batter box. His 20-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Isenbarger, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Isenbarger, it was that his Pittsburgh Industrials won the game anyway, stopping the San Diego Captains by the score of 11-2. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Isenbarger told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 20 straight games. It's something I will always remember." Isenbarger is hitting .295 this season with 11 home runs, 52 RBIs and 74 runs scored. He has 152 hits in 515 at-bats. |
