Four-bagger Feast: Jacobs Slugs 3 for Twin Cities
Thursday, September 21st , 1972
Twin Cities Northmen right fielder Carl Jacobs sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Dallas Wranglers, Jacobs told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Jacobs pushed the Northmen past the Wranglers, 12-1. To go along with the homers, he collected 7 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Jacobs told reporters after the game.
Carl Jacobs struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Mike Brown in the 2nd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Whitley in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Charlie Hickman in the 8th.
So far this year, Jacobs has 16 home runs and a .231 batting average.
