Top National Baseball League Newcomer Named

He might be a rookie, but he is a player. Bob Briggs of Pittsburgh certainly showed that this month with an outstanding 4-0 won-lost record and impressive 0.78 ERA. For that kind of performance Briggs was named the National Baseball League Rookie of the Month.
In September he started 2 games, tossed 23 innings, gave up 11 base hits, struck out 17 and walked 5. Opposing batters combined for a .139 average against him.
On the season, Briggs has compiled a 7-1 mark with a 3.46 ERA in 6 starts. In pitching 88.1 innings he has 57 strikeouts and 37 walks while limiting the opposition to a .218 batting average.
