Southern Baseball League Names Top Player

Larry Bass took Southern Baseball League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 25.

For his spectacular campaign, the Atlanta Governors star has been named the 1962 Southern Baseball League Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the first baseman.


On the season he compiled a .343 batting average to go with a .413 on-base percentage. The native of Wayne, New Jersey also added 22 doubles, no triples, 22 home runs, 74 RBIs and 98 runs scored.

He received 4 first place votes out of a possible 8. Tony Cardenas of the Richmond Virginians finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Bob Muller of the Miami Flamingos finished third.
