McCarrell Selected Top Performer in WBL Monday, August 20th , 1962 The marquee name in the Western Baseball League this week is Walt McCarrell of the San Diego Friars. The hot-hitting 28-year-old left fielder put up a .407 average and .448 on-base percentage, piling up 11 hits in 27 at-bats, 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored. That kind of hitting got him the WBL Player of the Week honors. Thus far this season in 44 games McCarrell is batting .257 with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 47 hits in 183 at-bats. |
