Roses Get Zip in 6-0 Loss to Placeholder
Sunday, September 2nd , 1962
The Portland Roses ran into a buzzsaw at Honolulu HI minor league park today as Honolulu Kings starter Triple A Placeholder cut them down to size, 6-0, tossing a 6-hit shutout.
"That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," Kings manager told reporters after the game. "Triple A knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash, the Honolulu hurler doled out 5 walks and registered 9 strikeouts.
For the season Placeholder has compiled a 2-3 record with a 3.61 ERA.
