Big Day with Bat: Alicea 5-for-5 Saturday, April 14th , 1962 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Juan Alicea, it came around today. The 20-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Omaha NE minor league park to pace the Sioux City Soos to a 6-4 victory over the Omaha Bulls. Omaha skipper told reporters in the press room that "Alicea deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Alicea hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Juan Alicea singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th. This season Alicea has hit at a .500 clip and produced 6 RBI, 1 home run and 5 runs. |
