Speer Silences Pittsfield, 1-0 Friday, June 1st , 1962 Mike Speer of the Erie Sailors shut down the Pittsfield Electrics 1-0 on a 3-hitter, holding them scoreless while ringing up 14 strikeouts and allowing 4 walks. After the game Speer said, "Guys have been fouling off a lot of pitches lately and I've been getting into too many deep pitch counts, but I'm pleased with the way things went today. I went right after them and stayed ahead in the count." For the season Speer has no saves, tossed 72.2 innings, fanned 88 batters and produced an ERA of 2.60. He has also been credited with 3 wins and 3 losses. |
