Lawley Twirls 4-0 Shutout Tuesday, August 21st , 1962 Freddie Lawley of the Reno Emeralds toyed with the Bakersfield Bears today, blanking them 4-0 at Reno NV minor league park. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 3-hit shutout with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. "I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Lawley said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there." Up to now Lawley has compiled an ERA of 3.99 with a 7-11 mark over 18 starts. He has 140 strikeouts in 146.2 innings and has held opponents to a .227 batting average. |
