He may have less experience than most of his Blue Ridge Baseball League peers, but that didn't slow Don Keough down at all in 1962.

At the age of 21, the Durham left fielder has been named the winner of the Blue Ridge Baseball League Most Valuable Player Award.

He had a .305 batting average and a .384 on-base percentage this year. In 96 games he piled up 115 hits, 22 doubles, 3 triples, 28 home runs, 78 RBIs and 77 runs scored.

"I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year."

He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Emanuel Santiago of the Durham Brightleafs finished second in voting, while Steve Straup of the Johnson City Engineers finished third.
