1962 Premier Player Selected By Penny
Thursday, September 6th , 1962
At the age of 19, Ron Palmer of the Geneva Robins could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 1962 was good enough to win the center fielder the Pennsylvania-New York Baseball League Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .264 batting average this year, as well as a .363 on-base percentage. He played 120 games and racked up 105 hits, 9 doubles, no triples, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs and 49 runs scored.
He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Brian Cook of the Elmira Quakers finished second in voting, while Greg Hebert of the Olean Oilers finished third.
