Boston and Chicago adopted vertical-striped caps this season, the first clubs to do so. The stripes were thick, and this style would spawn few imitators, but it can be seen as a forerunner to the vertical pinstriped caps that would later gain popularity. The Beaneaters also became the first team to adorn themselves with shades of red and blue, variations of which would eventually become the most popular combination on baseball uniforms.
This would be the last season for the Cleveland Blues, and with their demise, the last time detachable bibs would be seen on major league uniforms. |
