Pinstripes had made a brief appearance in the late 1880’s; they returned this year in Baltimore, Boston, and Philadelphia, and while the style has waxed and waned in popularity over the years, at least one team has employed it every year since 1896.

St. Louis became the first team to adopt interlocking initials as a logo (a logo which has endured, with brief interruptions, to this day), and the sillouetted beaver that appeared on Buffalo’s jerseys and caps was the first team logo based on something other than a letterform. The team nickname, “Beavers”, was also the first to appear on a baseball jersey.
