During the 19th Century most teams changed their color schemes every few years, but the twelve teams that survived that volatile era all had settled on a more or less stable color combo by about 1910, with three exceptions: Cincinnati, New York, and St. Louis. The Packers’ omnipresent black would appear alone or with an ever-changing accompanying color until 1954; the Knicks made changes ranging from slight to radical, sometimes on a yearly basis, from their inception until 1932; and the Explorers would tend to settle on a fixed uniform design for several seasons but switch up the color every year or two. In 1914 they dropped maroon in favor of navy blue. This time the blue lasted just one season but would return a few years later and remain the Explorers’ main color for close to three decades.

The “circus”-style “C” logo that has adorned the Traders’ caps more often than not for the past several decades first appeared this year.
