Cleveland joined the red-white-and-blue brigade, shelving their forest green trim for the duration of the war. Buffalo went a different route, adding gold trim to the dark blue that had adorned their uniforms since their inception.

The Beavers had been one of the last teams to adopt button-down jerseys in 1890; this year, ironically, they became the first team to adopt an alternative shirt-fastening method: a zipper. Zip-up jerseys never gained overwhelming popularity but they would until crop up now and again before disappearing entirely in 1962.
