Almost There: Pittsburgh On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 5-4 Win
The Pittsburgh Weavers moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting Philadelphia Quakers at Dormont Park by a score of 5-4. Weavers right-hander Ervin Fair was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 9 innings allowing 4 runs. The win gives the Weavers a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 World's Championship Series.

Whizzo Martins aided the Pittsburgh cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the catcher drove in 2 runs.

Quakers manager did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World's Championship Series."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in Pittsburgh. Slated to start are Soup Boles for the Philadelphia Quakers and Prince Bales for the the Pittsburgh Weavers.
