Road Win Lifts Detroit to
3-2 Lead in World Series |
Game 5 was big. So was Rube
Flood.
The Detroit
starter rose to the occasion at Schuylkill River
Park today, earning player of the game honors after
leading the Wolverines to a crucial 7-2 victory over
the Philadelphia
Quakers. Flood threw 9 innings of 6-hit ball
as the Wolverines won on the road to seize a 3-2
lead in the best-of-7 World's Championship Series.
Vaclav
Burk aided the Detroit cause with a
run-scoring single in the top of the third. For the
game, the first baseman went 3 for 5 with a triple
and 2 singles. He scored 2 times.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard
down," Burk said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as
someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my
finger."
The next game is set to be played Tuesday, October
10th, 1899 at State Fair Grounds in Detroit. Slated
to start are Antony
Jacobson for Philadelphia and Virgil
Hancock for Detroit.
